IDIBELL participates in a program led by ICFO to develop new clinical tools through photonics

Cutting edge Photonic based technologies for use in clinical settings allow doctors to non-invasively measure pathological and physiological properties of tissues, providing a better understanding of development of disease as well as the monitoring of treatment. This is the main goal of this multidisciplinary program led by the ICFO and funded by “la Caixa” Foundation.

Researchers discover an inactive tumor suppressor gene in lung cancer

Researchers at Genes and Cancer group at Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), led by Montse Sanchez-Cespedes, have identified the PARD3 gene as a tumor suppressor that is inactivated in lung cancer squamous type. The results of the study have been published in Cancer Research.

Prolonged exposure to certain pesticides and detergents increase the risk of lymphoma

Individuals exposed for at least 30 years to certain chemicals in pesticides and detergents are up to 32% more likely to develop lymphoma. So concludes a study led by Silvia de Sanjose and Laura Costas, Research Program in Cancer Epidemiology, ICO has published the British Journal of Cancer.
